Once you live here, be sure to ask EVERYWHERE for a "locals' discount". We get 10% off at even Denny's! Dante's gives a generous discount, too. If you are military as well, check...some places have different discounts for locals and military...find out which is best for you to use where. ;)
First Sunday of every month is Locals Day...the Conch Train, Aquarium, Shipwreck Museum, and a few others are FREE to locals. :)
Hopefully this will be helpful to the newbies arriving in KW this transfer season! I'll try to update as more comes around.

When we lived in Key West 3 yrs ago my son played In line hockey there at the rink, We miss it and the peole that we met there! He now plays ice hockey and loves it too! I wished I had this to read when I had first moved there!
Its not that there isnt stuff to do here, its that there isnt a lot for people who dont have a lot of money!!!
Perhaps you didn't see the free workshop at Home Depot, Free First Sundays for locals, Just4Kids arts and crafts is free, free music and instrument lessons at Bahama Village, free story time at the library...
As for the rest, it is no pricier than other places I have lived. The city sports, in fact, are a steal!
